Product Description

Yb:YAG (Ytterbium-doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet) is a crucial laser crystal for diode-pumped laser systems, offering distinct advantages over traditional Nd-doped laser materials. Compared to the commonly used Nd:YAG crystal, Yb:YAG exhibits an 8 nm wide absorption bandwidth for diode pumping, which effectively reduces the thermal management requirements for the laser diode. The Yb ions in Yb:YAG have a longer fluorescence lifetime at the laser upper level, and the crystal is free from excited-state absorption and energy up-conversion, resulting in minimal non-radiative heat losses. The thermal load generated per unit of pump power is 3 to 4 times lower than that of Nd:YAG, making Yb:YAG an excellent choice for high-average-power solid-state lasers. Additionally, Yb:YAG can be utilized as a scintillator material for detecting neutrinos and other particles.
